HOG TALES
Guilford Lake Trip,
November 16, 2003– told by Vicki
Bruce leading, we went to Guilford Lake. Shane & Erin, Dan & Vicki, and Fred. Had a good ride and ate lunch at Mark's Landing. We all started with either Hot chocolate or Hot tea! The weather was suppose to be 50 and sunny but we only saw the sun a brief time and temperature was mostly in the high 40's.
There were No complaints from anyone about the cool weather because we were still able to ride and bundled up appropriately. Fred led the way home (not that Bruce did anything wrong) and we encountered a brief shower. Oh well, what do you want for November. We all had a great time. edited by Gina
The Fred and Liz Lloyd Milwaukee Experience
as told by Liz
We had the misfortune of breaking down twice while traveling to. in Milwaukee for the 100th celebration last week.
The first was on I94 just west of Chicago on Thursday at 1pm. We were in the left lane against the concrete barrier praying no one would clip the bike. After about 45 minutes, a fellow rider pulled over to lend us space in his trailer. Thank heaven there are still some good Samaritans out there. And, thank heaven for trailers. We trailered with them to their hotel in Kenosha where we remembered Harleys towing service. We had a little wait (2 1/2 hours) due to Kenosha (Uke's HD sponsored) parade but the driver finally made it to pick us up. He brought us all the way to the Milwaukee HD dealer. the driver was a service rep for the Nebraska and Dakotas area. What a great guy. It was almost 9pm then but we got the bike into the service garage for the night.
We took a cab to our hotel. we got around on Friday with Brian who was luckily there with a car. Milwaukee HD had 24-hour service and our bike was ready by 5pm on Friday. They found a broken wire in the right handle grip and a blown fuse to the fuel pump.
We had been lucky enough to receive a parade pass and since we had the bike back in time, we lined up at 6am Saturday morning. Unfortunately we only made it half way through the parade. we pushed the bike to the side of the street until the parade was over then another good biker helped push it into the parking lot across the street. that turned out to be the parking lot of the Wisconsin Humane Society. But, half the parade was great. Again, the HD towing service (3 hr wait) came to our rescue. This time the driver was from Virginia and the Carolinas area - another great guy. Back we went to Milwaukee HD. Apologies and almost 24 hours later, we picked up the bike in time to get to the birthday celebration and drive home in the rain on Monday. By the way, the real problem turned out to be a worn wire under the seat that was causing a short to the fuel pump.
We'd rather not have had any problems but we were happy with the service and the people we never would have met otherwise. With all the difficulties they faced, we found everyone we dealt with to be very professional, sincere and incredibly pleasant, from Tracy who took the initial calls from us and called us back with updates on the timing of the truck's arrival, to Hal (truck PST who found us in the parking lot of the Milwaukee Humane Society and returned us to the Milwaukee dealership. The service was great and saved our "butts."
A very special thanks to DAVID & CARLE FREDERICK from Indiana who put them selves in harms way to stop with a trailer on I94 to rescue us AND to our very own Brian who chauffeured us around Milwaukee.
